Miami Marlins Hire Former St. Louis Cardinals Bench Coach Skip Schumaker As Manager Celeb Secret

Publish date: 2024-06-23

After having six-time all-star Don Mattingly at the helm for the last seven seasons, the Miami Marlins have hired Skip Schumaker as their next manager.

Shumaker was most recently the bench coach of the St. Louis Cardinals and had prior coaching experience with the San Diego Padres.

Schumaker comes into an organization that needs a young energizing voice who can motivate players and establish a winning culture. The Marlins have been known for their lack of winning throughout their franchise history as the team has made just three playoff appearances since their birth in 1993; with that said, two of those trips turned into World Series titles for the franchise, one in 1997 against the Cleveland Indians and the other in 2003 against the New York Yankees.

Miami has arguably the best starting pitching rotation in baseball, led by arguably the best pitcher in baseball in Dominican-born right-hander Sandy Alcantara; Alcantara is currently the favorite to win this season’s Cy Young award which is awarded to the best pitcher in baseball. Also joining Alcantara in that stellar group includes some high-quality youngsters, Trevor Rogers, Pablo Lopez, and Jesus Luzardo.

As for the offensive side of the ball for Miami, that is an entirely different story, as the team has been one of the worse, if not the worst, hitting teams in baseball for the last couple of seasons. Therefore, Schumaker has a lot on his plate coming into an organization that typically loses and a fan base that grows more impatient each year due to the lack of success of the team as well as the lack of a commitment to winning from ownership. However, with all that said, Shumaker has a tremendous opportunity to prove that he is a great Major League Baseball manager.

It will be interesting to see what kind of impact Schumaker makes and what approach he takes with his coaching style, as this will be his first time as a manager.
