FPL managers allowed to make unlimited transfers during World Cup
Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers will be allowed to make unlimited free transfers when the 2022-23 season goes on pause during the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
FPL managers are usually permitted to make one free transfer each gameweek. Additional transfers cost four points, which is deducted from that gameweek’s total.
But between November 12 and December 26, FPL managers will be permitted to make unlimited free transfers, so that they can completely overhaul their squad if necessary.
That is so players can ensure they can name a full-strength squad for the Boxing Day fixtures, which are scheduled to take place just eight days after the World Cup final in Lusail.
The FPL rules were updated to include this change on Tuesday and now read: “Unlimited free transfers can also be made between Sat 12 Nov 13:30 and Mon 26 Dec 13:30 when the Premier League season has been adjusted to accommodate the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.
“At other times you are limited to 20 transfers in any single gameweek. This rule does not apply when playing a Wildcard or a Free Hit Chip.”
FPL has already teased the new season, with player prices from several clubs revealed in stages over the past few days.
The 2022-23 season will be the first in Premier League history to be paused because of an international tournament.
The 2022 World Cup runs from November 21 to December 18, but world governing body FIFA has stipulated that players must be released on November 14.
The 2022 World Cup is being staged in November and December because temperatures can reach up to 50°C in the Qatar summer months.
