Does Will Smith Have Tattoos?

Tattoos are so common in Hollywood that it’s easy to assume most of our favorite stars have at least one, but can the same be said about action superstar Will Smith?

Will Smith doesn’t have any tattoos. The majority of his Suicide Squad co-stars got matching tattoos on the set of this supervillain action film, but he refused to join in. He explained his decision by saying that it didn’t feel right to get tattoos at this stage in his life.

“Suicide Squad” Tattoo Adventures

Smith successfuly managed to avoid getting tattoos for four decades, but his will was tasted on the set of Suicide Squad. This superhero film had a huge ensemble cast, and Margot Robbie came up with a fun way to commemorate the experience of making it together.

She channeled her inner Harley Quinn by bringing a tattoo gun on set, and suggesting they should all get matching ink. Most of her co-stars were on board, but Will Smith didn’t feel the same way. When Robbie said they’re all getting tattoos, he simply replied by saying “No, we’re not.” The two-time Oscar-nominated actor felt that his time to try body art has passed since he’s a father of three and “a grown-a— man”.

“Her trailer became ‘Robbie’s tattoo parlor.’ Not everybody got a tattoo, though. I don’t have any ink on me, and I am in my forties now, so I felt it wasn’t right. And anyway, I would have needed to ask my wife first,” Smith told Lufthansa Magazin.

Tattooing Joel Kinnaman

Will Smith didn’t feel like getting any ink on his body while filming Suicide Squad, but that didn’t stop him from tattooing other people. Joel Kinnaman, who played Rick Flag in this movie, let Smith give him a tattoo, but it wasn’t exactly a masterpiece.

The ink in question read the word “SKWAD”, and Kinnaman shared it on Instagram and captioned the photo by writing “Will has many many talents, tattooing is not one of them. It was like watching a drunk baby fly a helicopter.” He discussed the experience with Andy Cohen and James Corden during appearances on their talks shows, and expressed his regrets.

“That was a horrible idea. You know, don’t let a 47-year-old man without his reading glasses tattoo you. That is the life lesson. Especially when you have a very talented wife,” Kinnaman told Andy Cohen, referring to his wife Cleo Wattenström, who happens to be a professional tattoo artist.

Luckily, Kinnaman has many other tattoos that distract from his terrible “SKWAD” ink, including a huge tribal body art on his left upper arm. He also doesn’t have to fear of getting another awful tattoo from Smith on the set of James Gunn’s Suicide Squad sequel, since he won’t return as Deadshot in this movie.

The Smith Family Tattoos

Will Smith isn’t a fan of tattoos, but his wife Jada doesn’t feel the same way. While promoting her film Girls Trip, she played “Never Have I Ever” with MTV, and admitted she has a tattoo shaped like a heart with a lifeline. She also showed off the three dots tattoo on her wrist, representing her kids, and said she found out it had a second meaning when it was too late.

Jada said that her brother later told her that three dots are commonly tattooed by gang members, and that the real meaning of this ink is “mi vida loca” or “my crazy life.” This only applies when dots are arranged in a triangular shape – but that was exactly the case with Jada’s tattoo.

The couple’s son Jaden doesn’t have any tattoos just yet, but photos of the fake Drake tattoo on his chest and temporary drawings on his face made the rounds online in the past. His sister Willow also doesn’t have any known permanent tattoos but was previously spotted wearing face ink in the CR Fashion Book photo shoot.
