According to a report from The Los Angeles Times, Disney’s live-action remake of Aladdin has done exceedingly well at the box office over this past Memorial Day Weekend, with a staggering $86.1 million opening and estimates claim it’ll likely hit $105,000,000 after the first weekend, reports Comscore.

At the international box office, the movie earned approximately $121 million, making around $207.1 million in total. In the movie, Will Smith plays the Genie, Naomi Scott is Jasmine, and Mena Massoud is the titular character, Aladdin.

Despite the fact the film was universally praised by audience-goers, it only got a 58% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. As Disney fans know, their live-action remakes have done exceptionally well, including Beauty and The Beast from 2017 as well as Alice In Wonderland, and The Jungle Book.

This comes after a few big disappointments on Disney’s end, including Alice Through The Looking Glass, Tomorrowland, Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, as well as Prince Of Persia. Regarding other films, Keanu Reeves in John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, earned $24.3 million through Sunday, finishing off with $101 million in total.

As it was previously reported, Will Smith was worried about taking the place of Robin Williams, who first voiced the Genie in 1993. Robin’s performance was widely hailed by audiences and critics alike; Will Smith was more than aware of the actor’s legendary performance and tried to keep the original portrayal in mind, while at the same time making an entirely different contribution.

Speaking with reporters previously, the actor said that he was trying to bring a bit of “hip-hop” to the character. The original voice actor of Aladdin in the 1992 movie, Scott Weinger, said to reporters while at the premiere of Aladdin this past week that he was certain Will Smith would do fine as the Genie.

Mr. Weinger said it was clear that Will was worried about taking on the popular character, however, Weinger added that Smith would do a good job. While at the same premiere, Will Smith talked about the magic of the Genie, saying that really, the Genie just doesn’t want people to waste his wishes.

People are always looking to receive, but never looking to give. The actor said giving is the most meaningful thing that a person can do in their life.
